Paper will have an increasing role in seasonal décor over the next few years. We’ve already seen the first steps in its decorative evolution in obvious places, like textured gift wrap, printed baking cups, huge tissue-paper blossoms and ornamental fans. But now it’s taking on key roles in new forms, colors and textures.

Some of them are recommended in our Haute Halloween and Fall™ 2016 color-and-trend forecast. Think about brown parchment morphing into cornhusks or papier-mâché-covered wire simulating the gnarled bare branches of a spooky tree. Paper labels on wine bottles and potion jars tout the latest in magical brews, while Mexican papel-picado-style skeletons make ideal garlands.

Were already working more paper into the 2017 version of Haute Halloween and Fall. A trend we’re calling “Horrorgami” will feature true monsters, brought to life by paper-artisan Matthew Green from Tetra Variations.

We expect that two years from now, paper masks, hand puppets and more will become focal points for Halloween parties and outdoor decorating.
