Are you feeling lucky? You will be, if you’re prepared for the wearing of the green next year at this time!

St. Patrick’s Day may seem like an inconsequential occasion to some, but it’s actually significant enough to be listed in the top eight holidays for consumer spending, according to the National Retail Federation. Their most recent numbers on St. Patrick's Day expenditures show the average American spending $35.37 on it in 2016. With more than 125 million US adults saying they plan to celebrate this holiday, the national spending for it could reach $4.4 billion. What’s more, St. Patrick’s Day 2017 will fall on a Friday, so revelers are expected to be out in greater numbers than usual.

With this in mind, we added a St. Patrick’s Day trend to our Spring Forward 2017 forecast. Here are a few creative possibilities from that trend for you to use in preparing for this pot of retail gold.

First of all, it’s important to focus upon the behind-the-scenes actions of the “little people” who help make St. Patrick’s Day celebrations come together every year. Our trend, The Shamrock Forest, feature’s a leprechaun’s view of the festivities, helping you set the green scene from the ground up. This miniature-world slant on the holiday will allow you to add butterflies, sprites, fairies and endless shamrocks of varying heights to more traditional St. Patrick's Day displays. Bear in mind, too, that the “wee” creatures love their wee patterns, so be sure to add lots of dots, plaids, chevrons, diamonds and stripes to your creations. In addition, glitter, buttons, piping, and LED’s are just a few of the details that will make March 17, 2017 truly sparkle for St. Patty’s Day partiers.

Secondly, it’s important to broaden your color palette beyond varied shades of green. For 2017 we’re favoring splashes of both our bright Gala Yellow and our pastel yellow, Morning Sunlight to add dimension. You can't go wrong using black as an accent, but also consider hints of our Pink Horizon for party decor, and Golden Wheat to help capture the craft beer craze that will be a perfect match for St. Patrick’s Day in 2017.

For more details on The Shamrock Forest, plus the other nine trends and 30 colors in  this bestselling color-and-trend forecast, order Spring Forward 2017 . You'll find it in the Trend Store.
