Ambiente bills itself as the top international trade fair for consumer goods. But for some people, this is quite a broad definition, so Messe Frankfurt, organizers of Ambiente have wisely broken the goods showcased into three easy categories: Living, Giving and Dining. The Trend Curve’s trend-spotting team makes the trek to Frankfurt, Germany to explore those categories every year.
Throughout the Ambiente fair, we keep an eye out for subtle shifts in how consumers will view their homes in the future. Hints of these changes can be seen in everything from visual display to the words used on signs and packages. Conversations with the product-development and marketing teams that predictably attend Ambiente are another source of insights.
We also comb the stands for new directions in color, materials, textures and surface designs that will drive tomorrow’s décor trends. Ambiente 2015, for instance, revealed an expansion of the green family, broad advances for warm blues, and the first hints of a comeback for purples.

Stone was getting lots of attention, folded and crumpled paper made a trend statement (as did the look of paper) and mixed-media combinations pushed wood firmly into the spotlight. Meanwhile, Millennials were having an impact on cooking and serving products that fit their approach to food prep and entertaining. All this as a new Country Casual trend for kitchen and dinnerware had people of every age talking. (The Trend Curve’s complete trend report about Ambiente 2015 is available in the Trend Store.)
